HonestDog is a platform dedicated to ensuring that every dog finds a loving and responsible home. Founded in 2022 by lifelong animal enthusiasts Nikolaus and Sufyan, HonestDog addresses the challenges posed by unethical breeding practices and the lack of transparency in pet adoption. The platform connects prospective dog owners with over 2,000 certified breeders and reputable shelters, providing comprehensive support throughout the adoption process with detailed breeder information, health checks, and genetic test results.

Technical Architecture
A Next.js platform with server-side rendering provides optimal performance for breeder and dog listing pages. Node.js/Express APIs handle breeder verification workflows, application processing, and user management with token-based authentication. MongoDB stores complex breeder profiles, dog listings, health records, and verification documents with optimized indexing for search functionality. AWS infrastructure ensures reliable hosting, secure file storage for health certificates and photos, and scalable performance during peak adoption periods.

A dynamic application process adapts to breed-specific characteristics to screen out unethical breeding practices. Educational resources include webinars led by canine professionals covering dog care and training. Comprehensive support provides guidance before purchase with detailed breed profiles and checklists, plus post-purchase training guides and health advice. A community network connects adopters for ongoing support and shared experiences.
Results & Impact
HonestDog launched in Germany with a verified breeder-and-shelter network, structured health-check and genetic-test information on every listing, and a guided adoption flow built to be more transparent than typical classifieds-style pet listings. Code Huddle delivered the platform in six months and has continued to support Nikolaus and Sufyan's team since launch.
