About the Project
Share the Light
Share the Light is a free tutoring platform operated by admins who vet volunteer tutors and support students online. Students book sessions through a guided tutor-matching flow, manage favorites, chat, and join live calls. Tutors complete onboarding and certification, run sessions on Daily.co, log outcomes, and contribute resources and events. Admins govern applications, scheduling, chat safety, training, subjects, and analytics from a permissioned control plane — so free tutoring stays organised, safe, and measurable.

A guided path from subject to session
Students do not hunt blindly for help. A booking wizard walks them from subject and session type to available times and matched tutors, then confirmation and feedback. Favorites, chat, study tips, and community content keep learning support close after the first booking.
Volunteer tutors who are vetted and prepared
Tutors apply with transcripts, complete onboarding, and move through training modules, quizzes, and certification before taking students. Once live, they manage availability, approve sessions, join video calls, write post-session logs, and track personal impact.
Live video and a clear session lifecycle
Every session moves through explicit states — request, approval, reminder, Daily.co room, completion, and feedback. Cancel and reschedule paths are built in, so free tutoring still feels reliable for both students and tutors.
Operations with roles, calendars, and quality controls
Admins review tutor applications, manage students and tutors, schedule and reassign sessions, moderate chat, and run support inboxes. RBAC governance, audit logs, performance analytics, and subject configuration keep the marketplace under control as volume grows.
Resources, events, and shared learning content
A resource library, community events, study tips, announcements, and subject catalogs extend tutoring beyond one-to-one calls. Tutors can propose resources and events for admin review, so the community grows with oversight.
Stack, portals, and what we delivered
Share the Light runs on Next.js and React with PostgreSQL via Prisma, NextAuth sessions, Daily.co video, Socket.IO chat, AWS S3 media, Brevo email, and English/French i18n. Code Huddle delivered the public marketing site plus student, tutor, and admin portals as one connected tutoring platform.
